Event Description:

UPDATE: The March 30/31 Maintenance Outing has changed to Sunday March 31 only, due to weather and trail conditions. Still meeting a Longview Park at 9:30am, and we'll proceed from there to the work site.

Rescheduled from March 9 to March 30 due to weather and trail conditions.

What to Bring: We will be working with both power and hand tools in an outdoor environment. The reroute locations are along the shoreline, so if it's cold and windy please dress accordingly. Be sure to dress in layers, as it is likely to start out cold but warm up during the day. Given the highly variable weather at this time of year, be prepared for light rain and/or snow as well. We have a trailer with power equipment, as well as extra hand tools such as bow saws, loppers, as well as specialized tools such as Pulaskis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulaski_(tool)) and McLeods (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLeod_(tool)). You should bring work gloves. Additional hand tools that you want to bring are optional. Also bring your own lunch, snacks and plenty of water.

Event Description:

We're going to rebuild the bridge at Mile 6.6 on the Blue Trail. This is the bridge we've called the "Broken Bridge" for awhile. It isn't actually broken or unsafe, but is continuing to deteriorate. So we're going to replace it with new timbers and tread boards.

The nearest parking is in Campground 3 at the shower house on the south end of the Campground

What to Bring: If you have a cordless drill bring it along with extra fully charged batteries as we'll be driving about 150 screws. Gloves would be a good idea to handle the rough lumber we'll be using. We'll provide all the other tools and materials.

Event Description:

Mark your calendars! We're tackling a trail reroute on the weekend of November 10-11. This will address a problem stream crossing near Longview Park. Volunteers from KTC, Dirty Girl Adventures, Sierra Club, Kansas City Outdoor Club and others will be there. All are welcome. Some will be camping out Saturday night as well.

What to Bring: Bring work gloves and any additional hand tools you are comfortable using. Be sure to dress in layers, as it is likely to start out cold but warm up during the day, and wear bright colors (blaze orange if possible) as it is the beginning of pheasant season. Also bring snacks and plenty of water. If you are attending both Saturday sessions, please bring lunch with you. If you plan to camp with us Saturday night, please bring everything you need to remain sheltered, dry, warm and well-nourished. Restaurants near Ozawkie (6 miles north) and Perry (12 miles south) are an option if you prefer not to cook dinner in camp. Do bring something to eat in camp for breakfast on Sunday as none of the above are open for breakfast. We will complete our trail maintenance by noon on Sunday. Lunch will be on your own or at a local watering hole.

All tools will be provided by Manhattan Trail Works and Kansas Trails Council

Trail work is exactly what it sounds like, its outside work... And nature will inevitably get on you. Dress comfortably but ready to get a bit dirty, know that you could get sun burnt, stung by a bee or brush up against some poison ivy. We have eye protection and ear protection if you end up running a weed whip or chain saw.
And per the usual we will have some food and cold beverages for those who come and help improve our trails!
