Trail Team,
We're going to fire up the Red Trail recovery team again on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 9:00 AM to noonish. With a good turnout we should be able to continue westward from the west stairway connector and open it all the way to the west end where it rejoins the Blue trail. Then in January we can tackle the east end and the Red Trail will be open again for the new year! Yay!

We're going to begin the recovery and rebuilding of the Red Trail Saturday. We'll meet at 9:00 at the Corps Visitor Center and caravan to Campground 1 to get started. Anyone arriving late could meet on the trail by taking the center set of stairs on the south side of the Campground. We'll be working east and west from the center stairs connector.
It would be a good idea to wear sturdy shoes/boots, gloves and eye protection. We'll provide all the tools.
Hope you can join the fun recovering this incredible trail!
Thanks!

This night hike will celebrate the longest night of the year with glow sticks and headlamps!
The Winter Solstice is traditionally a time to celebrate the return of the sun and to contemplate the coming season. The shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year it's a perfect time to gather outside to mark the shift of seasons.
What to expect: We will hike a loop from our fire/parking spot. The hike will include uneven terrain, steep inclines/declines and rocky areas. Dirty Girl Adventures recommends use of hiking poles for use on uneven terrain.

We're planning to recover the trail sections that have been under water since last spring and summer. This will involve removing logs and other debris that floated onto the trails during high water.
Please wear sturdy shoes or boots, gloves and bring hydration packs if you have one. Bottled water will be provided.

This trail begins at the gravel trail near the west end and traces the upper reaches of the ravines which descend into the valley below. The trail leads to the most iconic overlooks in the park revealing the breadth of the Niobrara formations and the surrounding prairie valley below.

Maintenance outing: 10/19/19, 9:15am
Where: Old Military Trail (OMT) group camp area entrance/parking lot.
As of today, Perry Lake remains about 17' above normal pool elevation. Some parts of the trail remain underwater.
One area largely unaffected has been Section 3, between Ferguson Rd and Kiowa Rd. We'll use the first scheduled maintenance outing of this fall to do some cleanup along this part of Perry Lake Hiking Trail.
