Event Description:

This special Park Service centennial weekend will focus on prairie wildflowers and the butterflies that they attract. Presentations include demonstration of plant dyes and dyeing, wildflower painting, wildflower patterns for quilting, and medicinal plant walks. There will be several fun plant activities for the kids at the children's table, including how to become a "plant detective."

Gardening with prairie plants will be another topic, along with a Kansas butterfly slide program, and information about conservation of monarch butterflies.

Members of the Kansas Native Plant Society will guide wildflower walks at various times during the day. Prairie bus tours, led by park rangers, take visitors out to enjoy great views of the prairie and the buffalo herd.

The event will be held rain or shine. Bring the family to celebrate a Kansas National Treasure!

*In May the full schedule of events may be found at the KNPS calendar.

What to Bring: Dress for the weather. Most activities will be in the historic, 3-story stone barn, but many are outside. Food is available at Strong City. You may want a camera and binoculars to take advantage of the great views.
