Event Description:

Mark your calendars! We're tackling a trail reroute on the weekend of November 10-11. This will address a problem stream crossing near Longview Park. Volunteers from KTC, Dirty Girl Adventures, Sierra Club, Kansas City Outdoor Club and others will be there. All are welcome. Some will be camping out Saturday night as well.

UPDATE: Join us for a very special trail maintenance weekend on the 30-mile Perry Lake Hiking Trail! There are three different work sessions on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as we reroute the trail around an eroded gully near Longview Park. You may attend any combinations of sessions you like, and are also welcome to camp out with us on Saturday evening at the Longview Park campground.

Adults and service-oriented children 12 or over may attend. As we will be working with tools in an outdoor environment, pets are not permitted.

SESSION 1: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 9 am to noon

SESSION 2: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1 pm to 4 pm

SESSION 3: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 9 am to noon

Our main task will be completing the reroute shown on the map. If we complete that, we will work on several other parts of the trail that need attention.

Bring work gloves and any additional hand tools you are comfortable using. Be sure to dress in layers, as it is likely to start out cold but warm up during the day, and wear bright colors (blaze orange if possible) as it is the beginning of pheasant season. Also bring snacks and plenty of water. If you are attending both Saturday sessions, please bring lunch with you.

If you plan to camp with us Saturday night, please bring everything you need to remain sheltered, dry, warm and well-nourished. Restaurants near Ozawkie (6 miles north) and Perry (12 miles south) are an option if you prefer not to cook dinner in camp. Do bring something to eat in camp for breakfast on Sunday as none of the above are open for breakfast.

We will complete our trail maintenance by noon on Sunday. Lunch will be on your own or at a local watering hole.

We will meet at the parking lot of the Longview Disc Golf Course (39.186820, -95.441111). To get there from US 24 to the south, take Ferguson Road north 9.3 miles to 86th Street and turn left. To get there from Kansas 92 to the north, take Ferguson Road south 2.4 miles to 86th Street and turn right. Once you're on 86th Street, follow it west for 1.5 miles where it curves to the south, then continue another mile until you see the disc golf parking lot to the right. If the parking lot is full, you can park along the road.
